The OSO Big Band started in the late ‘90s as the Ray Mahony Society Orchestra under the direction of the late Ray Mahony. Ray retired in 2003, and Tom Morrow took over the band and renamed it the Oceanside Society Orchestra. In 2008, baritone-tenor sax sideman Tom Brawner stepped up to conduct, arrange, and add to the band’s music library, while Morrow continues as manager, emcee, and singer.
Today, the OSO Big Band is considered one of Southern California’s top musical ensembles. The ensemble is composed of professional and semi-professional musicians, many of whom played with many of the bands of the Big Band Era.
The OSO Big Band regularly performs in the San Diego area for private and public events. The band records at MiraCosta College and has appeared on special programs via KOCT-TV in Oceanside, CA.
The music library of The OSO Big Band is large and diverse. The band performs music from the Big Band Era as well as standards, rock’n’roll favorites and contemporary arrangements. Each performance is shaped to fit the needs and desires of the client.
